I was at Union glacier trying to get to Halley for 17 days so I did a bit of filming of the Lake Ellsworth guys to pass the time. Picture below of me filming the Aleutian landing in very cold conditions. Ant Dubber (Halley winter chef) took the picture.

Solar Eclipse, Antarctica

Solar Eclipse in Antarctica, filmed at Halley Station. My first ever solar eclipse, was great to see. Several of us spent hours the night before fanny-ing with filters from goggles held in front to welding glass. Which gave us a green look. Two red filters were added to bring it back to a real colour.

After all that we had cloud cover and a natural filter so we didn’t need anything, brilliant. 4:30am start was worth it.

I return to Halley research station on the Brunt Ice Shelf, Antarctica. This will be the final year for me filming the Halley VI build. Hopefully they get it finished.

We head to Halley via a new route for us through Punta Arenas, Chile to Union glacier in the Ellesworth mountains. A commercial camp where Di Gilbert and Heather Morning used to work and where Riet (Chef), Rob Smith(Camp Manager/guide) and Celine Met work who you might have seen in a few other films of mine.

The film shows us arriving and the start of our entrapment due to weather.

This was put together for 2005 Rothera folk night. We made it very quickly hence its a bit crap but a little funny. Jules (Hendry) is 6’9″ Dan (Peter) is 5’6″? Jules would only take part if he could be the small person and Dan would only do it if he was the tall person.

Dan Smale and his Aussie mate came to Scotland from Australia and inlisted the help of me to entertain with a Scottish adventure and here it is from Matt Doc’s point of view.
